SHORT ARTICLES BY TOM ELSEROAD
2020-05-06 The Romans Road to Salvation Walk Through
    Here is a quick review:
During our last study we saw the four verses that make up what we call the Romans Road to Salvation.
Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”
Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”
Romans 10:9, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved”

When we take the above four verses we can summarize them with a representative word as followed:
1. Romans 3:23 is summarized to the word SIN
2. Romans 6:23 is summarized to the word DEATH
3. Romans 5:8 is summarized to the word CROSS (love)
4. Romans 10:9 is summarized to the word BELIEVE

Now let us “walk” this Romans Road together.

1. SIN (Rm.3:23). This explains why we need salvation.
That is, we need salvation because we have all sinned.
Some will start through the Romans Road and begin with Romans 3:10.
Rom 3:10 as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE
I like to use both Romans 3:10 and 3:23.
That emphasizes that we are all in the same boat.
There are no exceptions. We are all sinners, and we fall short of God's standard.

2. DEATH (Rm.6:23). This explains what is the penalty for sin.
That is, the penalty for sin is death.
Romans 6:23 uses the word “wage” which has the idea of payment.
So because we all are sinners without exception the cost or wage is death.
Now, we are walking around alive physically. The death referred to here is spiritual.
Just as the very day Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit they died spiritually.
We are born alive physically, but we are all spiritually dead.
That spiritual death will last forever in eternity. Death is eternal judgment as payment.
At this point the unbeliever should feel uncomfortable!

3. CROSS (Rm.5:8). This explains how God provided salvation for the sin and death problem.
God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to rescue or save us from our sin and death problem.
This verse describes God's love for us, and shows it by sending His own Son to die on our behalf.
Jesus, the perfect without sin Son of God, paid the penalty of our sin for us.
So we do not have to spend eternity in judgment for our sin.
We can have new spiritual life now, and into eternity. That is, forever!

4. BELIEVE (Rm.10:9). This explains how we can receive this salvation from our sin.
We are to confess that Jesus is our only means of salvation by placing our trust in Him.
When we say “trust” or “believe” we mean we no longer have confidence in ourselves to bring salvation.
All our confidence is now in Jesus alone for the forgiveness of sin and receiving spiritual eternal life.
Of course you can use any other Bible verse you like to help make the message clear.

Any person who has not acknowledged they are sinners and deserving of God's judgment is destined to an eternity of everlasting death.
Death does not mean unconsciousness. They will be very aware why they are in Hell and that there is no turning back.
So today is the day of salvation if you have not personally trusted in Jesus to rescue YOU from the penalty of eternal death.
