  2020-05-25 Does God Intervene?

I am sure you have heard someone or maybe yourself say, “God, really intervened in that situation.”
Or maybe you heard, “We really need to pray to the Lord that He will intervene for us in this situation.”
We know what people mean by this, but it is not what the Bible teaches us about God.
To suggest that God needs to intervene, is to suggest most of the time He isn't doing anything.
The picture is that God looks down and sees something out of line, and He needs to intervene by putting it back in line.

God does not need to intervene in some special way because He is always working.
Col 1:17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
The meaning of “consist” is that He, Jesus, holds all things together.
Some people call this the cosmic glue. Scientists cannot explain why things do not just fly apart.

Heb 1:3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high
Several points can be seen from this passage.
1. Christ is co-eternal with the Father. He is not a created being.
2. Christ is the Creator of all things. As the Creator, all things are being held together by the word of His power.

We may think of some remote location where a bird is tweeting away for the glory of God.
Even though there is no human around, the bird is bringing glory to God in his singing.
Why is this bird singing and chirping? He sings to bring God glory.

Right now our bodies are doing millions of things that we are blissfully unaware of.
Right now every cell in our body is doing something.
DNA is replicating. Cells are dividing. Blood is pumping. White blood cells are fighting off infection.
We are consciously unaware of this work going on. And we do not have control over them. But this work continues on.
When we consider all these things, know that God is holding it all together by the constant exertion by the power of God.
In Christ all things hold together.

Every electron of every atom is spinning around in its tiny orbit. It does this because God is upholding everything by the word of His power.
And this constant work of God is for His own glory.
The God of the Bible is not one who created all things, and is now simply allowing it to run its course.
We need to be confident of the constant power of God!

If God was to ever stop working, even for a split second, the entire universe would cease to exist.
It would all fly apart and vaporize. You, I, and the universe (galaxies, stars, etc.) would just be gone.
The only reason these things exist, is because He is holding them all together, and all for His glory.
So there is never a time in which God is not working.

No matter what you face in life. No matter what trial(s) you face, know God does not sleep, and He is actively working right now.
We do not need Him to intervene, but to continue to work out things in our lives.
God does not need to intervene. He is already working.
Be comforted in knowing that God is working in your life right now.

One last verse to ponder:
Joh 3:13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.
When Jesus was on this earth as a man, He never ceased to be God concurrently in heaven.
Even when He was a baby in a crib, He was holding all things together by the word of His power!
