2020-06-19 The Visible Coming Is Our Expectation
The believer is waiting for the glorious and visible Coming (Greek, parousia) of Jesus.
He will come for us and we will be gathered together in the clouds to meet Him in the air (1Th.4:17).
Though this can be a much larger study, allow me to share a few important passages to encourage us.
Notice the theme in each passage is that Christ's coming will be visible.

2Th 1:6 since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you,
2Th 1:7 and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,
2Th 1:8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2Th 1:9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
2Th 1:10 when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.

• When do believers get their “rest” from their persecution (v.7)? When Jesus comes for us (v.10).
• Notice the “when” in verse 7, and the “when” of verse 10 refers to the same day.
• It will be “when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven” (v.7), and he will “be glorified in his saints” (v.10) that we find “rest”.

1Jn 2:28 And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
• When Jesus appears believers may have confidence or shame.
• John exhorts us to abide in Christ, so when He “shall appear” we are not ashamed at His Coming (parousia).

1Ti 6:14 that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ's appearing
• Believers are to preserve the truth until the Lord's “appearing”

2Ti 4:8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
• On that day believers who love Christ's “appearing” will receive a crown of righteousness.

Tit 2:13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ
• Believers are looking for the blessed hope, even the glorious appearing of Christ.
• Grammatically, the “blessed hope” and the “glorious appearing” refer to the same event.
• There are two nouns of the same case that are connected by “and” (or kai). This is known as the Grandville Sharp Rule.
• This “glorious appearing” is also the “blessed hope” we all are looking for.

Heb 9:28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
• Believers who “eagerly wait for” and look for Christ to “appear the second time” will be “apart from sin”.
• This is our salvation completed when Christ comes for us.

All these passages are what the believer is looking for. Read them all in context.
Every passage describes Christ coming for us using visible terms such as “revealed” or “appearing”.
There is nothing secret about the coming of Christ for Christians.
The Lord comes to rescue believers before the wrath of God will fall upon the unbelieving world (1Th.1:10).
Rev 1:7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.
