2020-10-22 How Our Resurrected Body Will Be Different
1Co 15:42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.
1Co 15:43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.
1Co 15:44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

Paul describes some of the differences we will experience between our earthly bodies and our resurrected bodies (1Co.15:35-54).
He contrasts our earthly bodies with the splendor of our heavenly and resurrected bodies.
Paul says our bodies will be spiritual, imperishable, and raised in power.

Now through the first Adam we received our natural bodies suited to our earthly environment.
Because of the Fall of Adam and Eve our bodies became perishable.
Due to disobedience mankind became mortal. So aging and eventual death now affect us all.
We came from dust, and we will return to dust (Ge.3:19; Ec.3:20).
Our resurrected bodies in contrast will be “raised in incorruption” (v.42).
They will no longer experience sickness or death (1Co.15:54).
1Co 15:54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY."

01. Because of the Fall we are “sown in dishonor” (v.43).
Man was originally created in the image of God (Ge.1:27), but sin has brought dishonor.
Believers have the promise that our imperfect and dishonored bodies will one day be raised in glory (v.43).
Being raised in glory we will be freed from the restrictions imposed by sin.
Our resurrected bodies will be honorable and perfectly suited for eternity.

02. Our bodies are also characterized as “sown in weakness” (v.43).
We are fragile and susceptible to any number of things that can endanger us.
We are also weakened by sin and temptation.
One day our bodies will be raised in glory and power (v.43) and no longer subject to fragility.

03. Our bodies will be resurrected and become spiritual (v.44).
Our natural bodies are suited for living in this natural world.
Paul said, “flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God” (1Co.15:50).
After the resurrection we will have a spiritual body perfectly suited for living in heaven.
This does not mean we will only be spirits, because spirits do not have bodies (Lk.24:39).
We will have resurrected bodies that will not need physical sustenance to support life.

The resurrected body of Jesus gives us some further clues for our bodies as well.
Jesus still had visible wounds (Jn.20:27), and the disciples were able to touch Him.
However, He was able to travel effortlessly and appear and disappear at will (Lk.24:31; Jn.20:19).
Jesus could go through walls, and yet He could eat, drink, sit and talk.
Scripture tells us our “lowly bodies” will be just “like His glorious body” (Ph.3:21).
Php 3:21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
So the physical limitations because of sin that hinder us now will be gone forever.
Freely we will serve God forever (Re.22:3).
Rev 22:3 And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.
