2020-11-13 Where Did Cain Get His Wife?
Usually this question comes up when someone wants to deny Adam and Eve as the beginning of all human life.
But it is a fair question for believers to understand.

The Bible does not say who Cain's wife was.
The short answer is that his wife must have been his sister or niece.
We know that Cain killed his brother Abel (Ge.4:8).
We do not know how old the brothers were.
They both appear to be adults at the time of the murder.
They may have already had families of their own at the time.

We know Adam and Eve had more children than just Cain and Abel.
Scripture only mentions three of their children. Cain, Abel, and Seth.
The Bible does not say Cain and Abel were the first children of Adam and Eve.
And they had more children after the Cain slew Abel (Ge.5:4).
Gen 5:4 After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters.
Cain was afraid for his life after he killed Abel which tells us there were likely many other children, or even grandchildren, of Adam and Eve at the time (Ge.4:14).
Gen 4:14 Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me."

So Cain's wife would have been a daughter or granddaughter of Adam and Eve.
The Bible teaches us Adam (Ge.2:7) and Eve (Ge.2:21-22) were the only human beings created by God.
All other humans were born from them.
So their children would have no other choice than to intermarry.
It was many years later, when there were a lot of people on the earth, that God forbid intermarriage (Le.18:6-18).

Through the years the human genetic code has become increasingly “polluted.”
Genetic defects have been passed down from generation to generation.
Adam and Eve did not have any genetic defects.
Thus, it enabled the first generations of their descendants to have an even greater quality of life than we do today.
Adam and Eve’s children had few, if any, genetic defects. As a result, it was safe for them to intermarry.
If Cain married someone other than a descendant of Adam and Eve, that would contradict the clear teaching of Scripture.

Christ died and rose again to redeem Adam’s race (Ro.5:15, 17; 1Co.15:21-22; 15:45).
Because all people are descendants of Adam and Eve, all people are sinners (Ro.3:23; 5:12).
