SHORT ARTICLES BY TOM ELSEROAD
2020-12-08 Trust in the Lord With All Your Heart (Pr.3:5-6)
    Pro 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
Pro 3:6  In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

What a contrast these verses are compared to Proverbs 28:26, “He who trusts in his own heart is a fool”.
There is a big difference between trusting in the Lord and trusting in self, other things, or people.
This trust we have in the Lord is not in our own understanding. This is where I struggle.
To trust the Lord with all our hearts involves believing in God's promises, wisdom, and power in every circumstance.

We have to admit that our human understanding is subject to error. We are all too often wrong (Pr.14:12).
Pro 14:12  There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.
Sin taints our understanding and leads to impulsive assumptions, and faulty emotions (Ep.4:17-18).
However, God's understanding is not limited or tainted.
Wisdom asks whether we should trust in our partial and sinful bases, or in God who is all-knowing and all-powerful.

The Lord leads us into paths of righteousness (Ps.23:3).
Psa 23:3  He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake.
God never lies (Nu.23:19).
Num 23:19  "God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
He is faithful to keep His promises (Ps.89:34).
Psa 89:34  My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.
God's plans are perfect, holy, and good to those who love Him (Ro.8:28).
Rom 8:28  And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
So God is worthy of our trust.

Trusting in the Lord begins by believing in Jesus for salvation.
We must acknowledge Jesus as the only one who can save us from sin (Ac.4:12).
After we trust Him for salvation we spend time getting to know Him better.
The more we know God, the more we will love Him. The more we love Him the easier it is to trust Him alone.
We learn to trust His wisdom in everything (Je.17:7-8).
Jer 17:7  "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD.
Jer 17:8  For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

Those who learn to trust in the Lord have hope and need not fear difficulty.
We know who is in control of our lives.
Trusting in the Lord with all your heart is learning to trust in the promises of God.
What a blessing it is to trust God with all your heart and have Him direct your paths.
